Buffer Settings – Double vs. Resolution

In FFXIV’s configuration program there is an setting called “Buffer size.”  Changing this value has a dramatic impact on frame rate.  But is it worth the performance hit?

here is the comparison between “Double” vs. “Resolution”

Graphic Settings–Ambient Occlusion

Ambient Occlusion is when they layer shadow on objects to make them more realistic.  The result is quite dramatic, but I took a 10 frames per second hit in performance.

The game went from 60 frames per second to 50-ish frames when I turned on Ambient Occlusion and Depth of Field.

With Ambient Occlusion and Depth of Field On

The shadow on the body is no longer uniform and actually becomes a gradient.  The effect is very dramatic when viewed in game.  In general objects becomes more vivid and contrast become stronger.  I would suggest turning it on if your hardware can support it.
